Course Summary


This is a Christ-centered, college-preparatory, junior high school, health & fitness course taught in a 33-week, school-year-block schedule.  This course utilizes an e-Notebook provided by Red Wagon Tutorials and online resources. There is no text book to buy. There are 16 Chapters to complete; hence, the student will finish one Chapter every two weeks according to the schedule provided.  


This course is designed for seventh grade home educated students, although it can be used for eighth graders as well. This course is designed to be a student's first systematic introduction to health and fitness. The Red Wagon Tutorials e-Notebook is a comprehensive health program, provided in a flexible format, designed to improve health and wellness among junior high school students. Real-life application of health skills help students apply what they learn in health class toward practicing good health behavior in the real world. Hands-on features are integrated with technology, assessment, and up-to-date health content.  


The course employs health activities designed to be done at home.  Students perform 30 required health-related activities during the 33-week session.  Health labs include simple activities using household items and items which can be gathered. Students who have limited experience with writing reports and completing comprehensive written exams that require mastery of course material might find this course particularly challenging. However, the study skills required for this course are essential for success in high school and beyond.


Students must complete 20 25 pages of reading per Chapter, all required Chapter experiment activities (to be recorded in a parent-checked and instructor recorded paper and ink laboratory report notebook), and an online instructor-graded Chapter test at the end of each Chapter. There will also be an online instructor-graded semester exam at the end of each semester and a quarterly formal lab report submission required.


Semester grades for the course will be determined by the number of required activities completed and grade obtained on the two quarterly formal lab report submissions (25% of total grade), online Chapter test scores (50%), and online comprehensive semester exam standing (25%).  There will be online 1st and 2nd semester grade cards produced. Students will meet with the instructor once per week for 90 minutes in an interactive video conference using web conferencing software. 


Cost of the course is approximately $400 ($13 per 90 minute session): computer, Internet, and lab supply/equipment costs are not included.  There is no refund of tuition should a student miss a class or should the corporate Internet system fail.  Mr. Rosenoff will record his classes and make these available encase of Internet failure or for individual absence make up: an example recording is linked to the course main page.
